Description
This is an antique (1907) universal copper percolator samovar coffee pot (or urn) with tray. Made by Landers Frary & Clark in New Britain,Connecticut (USA). Maker's marks and patent dates stamped on inside (from 1894 to 1907), with the most recent stating "July 16 07." Also stamped are the words "grind coffee medium." Made of copper with some brass. Rather than earlier molds that sat on top of a stove to heat the water, this model incorporated a spirit burner (kerosene?) located beneath it which allowed it to be used anywhere in the house. The overall height of the samovar is 12.5" to the very top of the lid and approximately 7" in width.
This item is in remarkably good condition considering its age. The copper has a nice patina, which you could polish if you wish. There is one very tiny "dimple" on the outside of the pot near the top. The glass knob insert has a chip on one side (visible in the gallery photo), but it still fits and stays firmly in place. The inside of the pot shows only a few slight discolorations from use. The tray measures 14" by 9" and is etched with an elegant design (it shows some discolorations which possible could be removed with some polishing?).
I have included several gallery photos to show all the details of this beautiful item, so examiner these carefully.
Note that the first gallery photo shows the glare of the overhead lights making an apparent design, but this is just an artifact.
